Historic College Declared National Heritage: Preserving Architectural and Cultural Legacy marks a major milestone in protecting Pakistan’s educational and cultural history. The Government Graduate College Asghar Mall in Rawalpindi has officially received heritage status, emphasizing its architectural significance and role in shaping generations. This historic recognition ensures that the 113-year-old college building and its Potohar educational legacy remain preserved for future students and scholars.
Minister Aurangzeb Khan Khichi called the institution a symbol of knowledge, character, and Pakistan’s heritage. He recalled Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s educational message, urging students to act as ambassadors of the nation abroad. The minister also invited cooperation agreements with cultural institutions to promote educational and cultural activities through the ministry’s platforms.
Established in 1903 as Sanatana Dharma High School, the college became the Potohar region’s first public-sector college in 1948. Over the years, it has remained a center for learning and cultural development. College Principal Dr. Tanveer Ahmed Khan Khichi launched archaeology classes to boost students’ historical knowledge. The Directorate of Archaeology and Museums has assured full support in preserving this cultural and educational landmark.
This heritage declaration not only protects the architectural structure but also boosts initiatives for national progress through education. By preserving its history and supporting education, the college inspires students and celebrates Pakistan’s culture. Such efforts exemplify the importance of preserving historic institutions as cornerstones of national identity.
