Health Card Program Extended to Islamabad, AJK & Gilgit-Baltistan

Health Card Program Extended to Islamabad, AJK & Gilgit-Baltistan to provide free and cashless healthcare for citizens. The initiative ensures that residents of these regions can access quality healthcare and major medical treatments without worrying about costs. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif emphasized healthcare as a fundamental right for all Pakistanis, regardless of social or economic status.

The program, revived under the leadership of the Prime Minister’s Health Card Pakistan, now covers Islamabad Capital Territory healthcare, the Azad Jammu & Kashmir health scheme, and Gilgit-Baltistan hospital services. Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal confirmed that nearly 10 million residents will benefit from the expansion. Citizens can receive treatment at over 70 public and private hospital empanelment facilities, ensuring nationwide health coverage and timely medical care.

Preventive healthcare programs are a key part of this initiative. The program promotes child vaccination and safe childbirth while offering treatments for critical illnesses. Special attention is given to underprivileged communities, including widows, orphans, and daily wage earners. Parliamentarians, the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Chief Secretary of AJK actively support transparent program implementation, including inspections and monitoring of empanelled hospitals.

The expansion complements the ongoing Punjab health program expansion and other provincial healthcare reforms. Residents living in Karachi and other cities can also access designated hospitals under the scheme. By combining healthcare access for citizens with preventive care programs, the initiative strengthens Pakistan’s health infrastructure and ensures long-term sustainability.

This program highlights the government’s commitment to affordable healthcare. By providing free, cashless medical treatment, it bridges gaps in healthcare services and improves the well-being of millions.
