5G Launch in Pakistan Nears: 80% of Phones Already Compatible

5G Launch in Pakistan Nears: 80% of Phones Already Compatible. According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), nearly 80% of mobile phones in Pakistan now support 5G networks. This high compatibility means users can soon enjoy faster internet speeds and better connectivity. The PTA confirmed that most devices work with the 2300 MHz and 2600 MHz frequency bands used in the upcoming NGMS spectrum auction.

The upcoming 5G spectrum auction will release about 597.2 MHz of spectrum below 6 GHz, including 700, 1800, 2100, 2300, 2600, and 3500 MHz bands. Telecom operators in Pakistan are preparing to expand fiber-to-the-site infrastructure from 20% to 60%. This upgrade will improve mobile data performance Pakistan-wide and reduce urban network congestion. Early rollout plans focus on major cities like Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta.

Commercial 5G rollout will initially provide a minimum 50 Mbps downlink speed, while 4G network upgrades are expected to boost current speeds from 4 Mbps to 20–25 Mbps. The mid-band spectrum will balance coverage and capacity, and high-traffic locations will receive higher throughput and lower latency. PTA sources also confirmed that Quality of Service (QoS) obligations will ensure reliable and consistent connections for all users.

The 2025–26 national transition period aims to prepare both operators and users for full-scale deployment. With most smartphones already 5G-ready, the launch promises a smoother experience and faster mobile broadband improvement. Pakistan is poised to join the global 5G landscape, and users can expect significant improvements in speed, connectivity, and online services within months.
