Representatives of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) told Federal Minister for Board of Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh that workers are struggling due to factory closures. The closures also affect Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Pakistan, where industrial development progress has slowed.
Officials at FIEDMC (Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development & Management Company) confirmed that 90 factories were operating by 2025, but recent closures have disrupted production. Security concerns, policy uncertainty, and rising logistics costs have added pressure on local investors. Rail-based freight movement from Karachi Port has also faced delays, affecting industrial supply chains and foreign investment in Pakistan.
Experts warn that workforce unemployment may rise further if industrial bottlenecks are not resolved. Industrial feasibility studies are underway to revive closed units and attract local and foreign investors. Industrialists emphasize the importance of investment promotion, better policy support, and practical solutions to strengthen Faisalabad’s economy. Mian Mansha and other business leaders have offered funding and strategic plans to improve industrial output.
The government, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is committed to addressing economic bottlenecks and supporting industrialists. With collective efforts, Faisalabad can recover, restore jobs, and maintain its position as a leading industrial center in Pakistan.
